How to Program a Garage Door Opener Travel Limits

Does your Chamberlain garage door stop before it hits the floor? Does it hit the ground and immediately reverse? You likely need to reset the travel limits. Setting these limits tells the motor where to stop during both opening and closing.

This video walks you through how to program a garage door opener equipped with a yellow learn button. You do not need special tools for this fix. You can finish the entire setup right from your ladder in just a few minutes.

Start by locating the adjustment buttons on the back or side of the motor unit. Press and hold the black adjustment button until the door begins to open. Use the up and down arrows to fine-tune the door height. Once the door sits where you want it, press the rectangular button to lock in the open position.

Next, hold the down arrow until the door lowers and seals firmly against the floor. Press the rectangular button once more to set the closed limit. The unit will beep and cycle the door automatically to confirm the new settings.

Follow along with the video above to keep your garage door opening and closing smoothly.
